Crafts, fine dining and a church with views
Sant Rafel de sa Creu (or de Forca) is a small village with a distinct local character, thanks to its excellent range of restaurants and its location at a busy crossroads linking the centre of Ibiza with the west. When exploring the island, be sure to include it on your itinerary whether you’re visiting in summer or winter, as a stop here offers a fabulous panoramic view of the town and its bay.
What to see in Sant Rafel
It would be unthinkable to stop in this village, situated between Ibiza and Sant Antoni, without visiting the church of San Rafael Árcangel, perched atop a hill and a fine example of a typical Ibizan church. Here you’ll find a haven of tranquillity and the chance to cool off in its portico whilst enjoying some lovely views.
A good time to visit the village during the summer is on Thursday afternoons, when the Sant Rafel Craft Fair takes place, bringing together local craftspeople and producers. This fun and cultural event highlights the fact that Sant Rafel is the only village in Ibiza to have been declared an Area of Craft Interest due to its pottery tradition.
A tip: if you’re in Ibiza on the second Saturday in October and want to experience Ibizan folklore, head to the Pou d’en Micolau in Sant Rafel and join in the traditional dance held around the well.
