The Gateway to Northern Ibiza
Sant Joan is one of the most charming towns in Ibiza, with a small settlement clustered around the road that runs through it toward the tourist destinations of Portinatx and Cala Sant Vicent. Stopping for a snack at one of its cafés or visiting its Sunday market is always a great idea. When you visit northern Ibiza, don’t skip this town—especially if you’re on the island in late June, when the Sant Joan patron saint festivities are held.
What to see in Sant Joan de Labritja?
The town’s main landmark is the Church of St. John the Baptist, built in the late 18th century and the origin of the current town center, which consists of a small number of whitewashed houses that give Sant Joan its unique charm. On Sunday mornings, the town comes alive with the Sant Joan Market, a festive event featuring musical performances and considered one of the most authentic on the island thanks to its carefully curated selection of artisans and artists.
And to round out your visit to Sant Joan, there are more stops within the municipality and near the village to include on your itinerary, such as the Church of San Vicente, the most remote on the island; the Culleram Cave, the Moscarter Lighthouse, the Portinatx Tower, and the beaches of Cala Xarraca, S’illot des Renclí, Cala des Xuclar, Portinatx, Cala d’en Serra, and Cala de Sant Vicent.
A tip: If you’re looking for hiking trails for experienced hikers, Sant Joan offers routes of medium and high difficulty.
