A local atmosphere between the airport and the capital
Linked since ancient times to the salt production that took place in the nearby salt pans, the village of Sant Jordi de Ses Salines has become one of the main residential centres thanks to its proximity to the town of Eivissa, the airport and Playa d’en Bossa. With a diverse range of dining options, it maintains a lively atmosphere all year round, particularly on Saturday mornings, when its well-known second-hand market is held.
What to see in Sant Jordi
The main monument in this village, which belongs to the municipality of Sant Josep, is the Church of San Jorge, one of the four fortified churches built in Ibiza to protect against attacks by the Berbers. After your visit, just a few minutes’ drive from the village, you’ll find the Ses Salines Natural Park visitor centre, where the exhibition will introduce you to the environmental and ethnographic significance of this iconic natural area on the island. And if you fancy relaxing by the sea, the beaches of Es Codolar, Playa d’en Bossa, Ses Salines and Es Cavallet are just a few kilometres from the village.
A tip? If you like second-hand markets, pop along to the Sant Jordi Market on Saturday morning. It’s held at the old Sant Jordi racecourse, where you can browse the numerous stalls set up by both professional sellers and local residents.
