Rural Ibiza overlooking the Mediterranean
Part of the municipality of Sant Josep de sa Talaia, Es Cubells is one of Ibiza’s inland rural villages, with a scattered population and few buildings around the church; however, in this case – and this is what makes it unique – it overlooks the coast. It is undoubtedly one of the island’s most charming spots, thanks to its views, its unspoilt coves and its peaceful atmosphere.
What to see in Es Cubells?
Standing in a square on the edge of the cliff, the church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen is the only monument worth visiting. It was consecrated in 1864 and was built thanks to the efforts of the Carmelite friar Francesc Palau, who spent long periods living as a hermit on the islet of Es Vedrà. Once you’ve visited the church, head to the viewpoint to enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the cliffs of Es Cubells, Cape Llentrisca and the headlands of Porroig and Des Jondal.
If you’re visiting Es Cubells in summer and fancy a day at the beach or a refreshing dip before continuing your journey through the south and west of Ibiza, beneath the
cliffs of Es Cubells you’ll find the unspoilt coves of Ses Boques, Cala Llentrisca and Es Torrent.
