Ses Fontanelles Rock Shelter

The only cave paintings on the Pitiusas Islands

This rock shelter, also known as Sa Cova des Vi, is situated on a steep cliff on the coast of Sant Antoni, some 50 metres above sea level. Inside, there are remains of the only cave paintings found on Ibiza and Formentera, discovered by Abbot H. Breuil in 1917 and estimated to date from the Punic period (4th–6th centuries BC).

The paintings, both executed in black lines, are now barely visible and are protected behind a fence; as a result, a visit to this rock shelter is often an excuse to enjoy a walk with beautiful views over the coast.

A tip? Visit this spot in the off-season and combine it with a walk starting and ending at Cala Salada.
