A rural enclave with centuries of history
In the south-west of Ibiza, on the way to the beaches of Cala d’Hort and Cala Carbó, lies the site of a Punic-Roman rural settlement founded in the mid-5th century BC, which at one time produced oil and wine for commercial sale. The site preserves the remains of two necropolises, one Punic and the other Roman-Byzantine, as well as a rural building whose ruins have revealed an oil mill and a large wine cellar in use from the Punic period until the 4th–5th centuries AD.
Next to the site, and jumping forward a few centuries in time, you will also find an excellent example of a traditional Ibizan farmhouse, Can Sorà, where the Ibiza Ethnographic Museum regularly holds events related to Ibizan culture and customs. And as a fitting finale and reward for your curiosity, by taking a detour from your route to visit this site, you’ll have the privilege of enjoying a beautiful panoramic view of the coast and the Cala d’Hort nature reserve.
