Interactive exhibits on military engineering
The citadel of Ibiza was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in recognition of its outstanding example of Renaissance military engineering. An excellent way to appreciate its value is to combine a walk along its walls with a visit to the museum-converted bastions of Sant Pere and Sant Jaume, two stops of interest whether you’re a history buff or simply curious by nature.
At the first, located next to Portal Nou, you’ll learn about the complex challenges faced by the Italian engineer Giovanni Battista Calvi in overcoming the existing differences in height. And at the Sant Jaume bastion, situated on the rampart walk, you’ll learn interesting facts about the evolution of military weaponry from the 16th to the 18th century, and you’ll even be able to try on armour and helmets and hold muskets, swords and other exhibits in your hands.
