Contemporary Art Museum - MACE
Ibiza’s Contemporary Art Museum was inaugurated by Ibiza’s City Hall in 1969, thanks to the First Biennial of Ibiza that had taken place in 1964. It is, therefore, one of the most ancient contemporary art museums in Spain. It has always been located within the Hall of Arms and a Prova warehouse, one of the most emblematic buildings in Ibiza's old town, Dalt Vila. This building, designed by Simón Poulet in 1727, has endured a five-year large reform process due to the archeological remains found in the area.
The museum reopened in spring of 2012. The MACE keeps within its collections, always committed with the avant-garde, backgrounds of different sources, amongst which we can highlight the pieces of art awarded during the Biennial and Ibizagráfic, and the engraving collection donated by gallery owner Carl van der Voort.
