Images of early 20th-century Ibiza

To discover what Ibiza was like in the 1930s, when it captivated the first intellectuals and artists to set foot on the island, there is no better place to go than Dalt Vila and step through the gates of the Gothic palace known as Can Comasema. Inside, a total of 130 paintings by the Ibizan artists Narcís Puget Viñas (1874–1960) and Narcís Puget Riquer (1916–1983), father and son respectively, await visitors.

Through oil paintings, watercolours and drawings in the costumbrista style, early and mid-20th-century Ibiza comes to life in landscapes, harvest scenes, everyday life, festive traditions, seafaring activities, portraits, weddings and period costumes, combining ethnographic and artistic interest in every work.

A tip: don’t forget to take a look at the characteristic decorative elements of Catalan Gothic architecture on the façade, in the entrance hall and in the courtyard.
