The altarpiece that is well worth a visit
The village of Jesús, as well as boasting a lively local community, is home to Ibiza’s greatest artistic treasure: a late-Gothic high altarpiece comprising 25 panels. Painted in the workshop of the Valencian artists Rodrigo and Francisco Osona, it is housed within the Church of Our Lady of Jesus, whose origins date back to the 15th century, when it was built as a Franciscan convent.
It is a very simple church comprising a single nave with a semicircular vault and six side chapels. On the outside, its ‘porxo’ stands out; it is built on one side of the building rather than at the front, as is usually the case.
