The Espardenya is a typical shoe of the Island. Formerly used by peasants and it was very common to see the traditional dancers (ball pagès). There are different models of espardenyes. They are attached to the ankle with a string and barely cover the toes. Usually all were made with esparto sole, esparto and mixed hemp.
