3 pueblos de Sant Josep de Sa Talaia por descubrir

Sant Josep de Sa Talaia is much more than some of Ibiza's most famous beaches.

If we leave the coast for a moment and enter its villages, we find white churches, traditional architecture, small rural villages and corners closely linked to the history and landscape of the island.

Today we visit three villages in Sant Josep de Sa Talaia that are very different from each other to discover another side of the municipality. Will you join us?

Sant Agustí des Vedrà: a trip to the Ibiza of all times

There are villages that seem to have been left on the margins of the passage of time and Sant Agustí des Vedrà is one of them. Located on a small hill next to the road that connects Sant Antoni with Sant Josep, it is considered one of the best preserved traditional ensembles in Ibiza.

Its nucleus allows us to understand perfectly how many of the old rural parishes of the island developed around a church. Here, the protagonist is the church of Sant Agustí, built in the eighteenth century, around which we find traditional country houses, dry stone buildings, a shelter tower, old wells and cisterns.

You don't need an itinerary to enjoy it. The best thing to do is to walk quietly, observe its architecture and stop to contemplate the landscape. During the tourist season you can also end the visit by dining in one of its restaurants overlooking the church.

Our advice? Combine the excursion with a day at the beach in Cala Tarida, Cala Bassa or Platges de Comte and you will have a perfect plan in the west of Ibiza.

Sant Josep de Sa Talaia is much more than a place of passage

Located at the foot of Sa Talaia, which at 475 metres is the highest mountain in Ibiza, Sant Josep occupies a privileged position in the interior of the municipality. Many cross it on their way to the beaches of the west and south, but it is worth stopping and discovering it without haste.

In the heart of the centre we find the church of Sant Josep, built in the eighteenth century following the characteristic white lines of Ibiza's temples. In front of it there is a pleasant garden square that becomes a meeting point, especially during the afternoons and evenings.

The town also has restaurants, cafes and small shops that make it very easy to extend your visit. And if you want to add a little culture to the plan, keep an eye out for Can Jeroni, whose programme keeps this cultural space alive throughout the year.

Sant Josep is also a great starting point to continue exploring the municipality, either on the way to its beaches or to places of historical interest such as the Ses Païsses site in Cala d'Hort or the Sa Caleta Interpretation Centre.

Between history, salt and nature in Sant Francesc de s'Estany

Small in size but huge in landscape, Sant Francesc de s'Estany is closely linked to one of Ibiza's most important historical activities: the exploitation of salt, whose origins on the island date back to Phoenician times.

This small rural parish is essentially made up of the church of Sant Francesc de Paula, the parish house – now the Ses Salines Interpretation Centre – and some traditional houses. But it is enough to look around to understand what makes this place so special: we are in the heart of the Ses Salines d'Eivissa i Formentera Natural Park.

From here you can discover the salt ponds, learn more about the natural and cultural values of the park in its interpretation centre or continue to Es Cavallet and Ses Salines. In the surrounding area you will also find the defence towers of Sa Sal Rossa and Ses Portes and the historic salt port of Sa Canal.

Do you feel like walking? Outside the hottest months, the surroundings of the ponds offer magnificent possibilities to walk and calmly observe one of the most unique landscapes of Ibiza.
