Launch of the Guided Tours at the Museu Arqueològic in Dalt Vila

The Museu Arqueològic de Eivissa i Formentera (MAEF) will inaugurate guided tours of the exhibition Quan les parets ens parlen on May 18 at 12 p.m., in commemoration of International Museum Day, under the theme Museums Bridging Divides. The exhibition showcases the restoration work and historical-archaeological studies carried out in recent years in the Chapel of Sant Salvador and the University of Ibiza.

Members of the technical team responsible for the interventions will explain on-site the documentation, research and restoration work undertaken on the heritage assets of these two buildings, which form part of the historic headquarters of the MAEF in Dalt Vila.

Póster expo Quan les parets ens parlen castellano page 0001The exhibition offers a visual journey through images and an explanatory video presenting the different restoration processes carried out. It also includes a chronological timeline on the museum’s history, which began in 1903 with the creation of the Societat Arqueològica Ebusitana.

This organisation, formed by a group of intellectuals, promoted the establishment of the Museu Arqueològic d’Eivissa by the Spanish State in 1907. Thanks to the Town Hall of Ibiza granting the use of these two recently restored buildings, the museum was installed in Dalt Vila’s Cathedral Square, becoming one of the oldest archaeological museums in Spain. In this sense, the exhibition also aims to launch the commemorative events marking the 120th anniversary of the foundation of the MAEF (1907–1927).

The guided tours will take place by prior reservation only and in small groups, in accordance with the characteristics of the space and in order to provide visitors with better attention.
